Hand Mixer Project (2014)
Incoporating professional practice into a design project, part of this design brief was to design a food preparation appliance suitable to fit in the Morphy Richards range.
Along with designing or redesigning a new product for Morphy Richards, the brief states to consider creating a potentially new brand identity, producing a new line of products that fit into this range
I opted to design a compact, cordless hand mixer, aimed at the mid-market (consumers aged 35-44), who look for quality and elegance in their products.
Experimenting with form I wanted something that came across as Original, Innovative and Intelligent, these are the three words I associated with the brand and it were these values that i wanted to implement into the design
Experimenting with different designs, I opted for this free standing tower like form. I believe there are elements in this form that meet the Morphy Richards criteria. Altering some of the features to a traditional hand mixer, I incorporated an ejection button at the top to add to the sophistication of the design. Adding a retractable cable may also help maintain the elegance of the product
Gathering from my research, an issue with existing hand mixers are primarily to do with the cable that seem to get in the way when in use. A portable hand mixer would appear to be a perfect solution to the problem. This would then mean that the Hand Mixer would require a docking station for which it can be charged. I used this as an opportunity to store the beaters when not in use, as well as adding a dip tray. This dip tray can be used to collect any residue that may usually drips onto the counter which means no mess
