Camp Hayden Marks Logo 2015

Over the summer (2015) I had applied to work in a USA Summer Camp and had successfully been hired by the Fresh Air Fund

The Fresh Fund is an independent, not-for-profit camp, that provides thousands of New York City children with once in a lifetime  experiences to unlock their potential. Attending summer camp, the children participate in a number of activities, making new friends and learning new skills

The Fresh Air Fund is split into 5 different camps:

  • Camp Anita Bliss Coler (ABC) - Girls aged 9-12

  • Camp Hayden Marks - Boys aged 9-12

  • Camp Hidden Valley - Boys and Girls aged 8-12 (including children with special needs)

  • Camp Tommy - Boys aged 12-15

  • Camp Mariah - Boys and Girls in 7th-9th Grade

Being placed at Camp Hayden Marks, I was hired as the Adventure Skills Specialist/Instructor, it was my role to teach children about outdoor adventure skills, providing children with the best experience possible

Camp Staff Project Task

Whilst at camp, the Camp Hayden Marks Directors offered the opportunity to design a new logo that can be used for the branded hoodies/t-shirts for all to wear.

Putting my creativity to good use, my first approach began by researching into Camp Hayden Marks, gaining an insight to their morals and key values.

The camp is split into 6 villages: Hilltop; Avalanche; Highlands; Olympus; Lakeside and Deer Trail all splitting the different ages 9-12. The village assigned then becomes your home throughout the time at camp.

This sets a little friendly rivalry between the villages to see which one is the best, and in order to show their pride, each village bares a sign that can be held high. The images on the left demonstrate how some of the villages showing their signs nice and proud.

Despite the friendly rivalry between villages, it is still one camp, and the morals they incorporate are all about respect and unity. So, I felt it would be a great idea to demonstrate this whole idea of unity.

Final Design

For the final logo design, I have displayed all of the village signs under one united circle. I feel this gives a little insight as to what Camp Hayden Marks is all about, demonstrating how the camp is divided into 6 villages, and yet they are all united under Camp Hayden Marks

Gathering all of the designs created by many of the other staff members, under a voting system, it had been decided that my design was the best fit for Camp Hayden Marks and as a result was to be placed on the front of the branded t-shirts and hoodies
